Alderney

Alderney is the northernmost of the inhabited Channel Islands, just roughly 12 miles (19 km) from the mainland. However while a beautiful destination for casual gazing, the area is not recommended for serious observations; the beaches are, for the most part, unaffected by artificial illumination, providing a dark and open sky for reasonable stargazing. Hotels, vacation lodges, and campgrounds are all available within the island and in neighboring cities. The EarthSky friend who recommended this entry told us “You can walk the stunning cliff paths, enjoy the quiet, uncrowded sandy beaches, go bird-watching, rock pooling, or explore Alderney’s history. Be entertained by a wide variety of events or simply enjoy a night of star-gazing under truly dark skies.” For more information, please visit online or call +44 (0) 1481 822333.
