EarthSky.org is looking to hire an Editor!
Join EarthSky as a remote, part-time editor (15-20 hrs/week) helping create clear, engaging science and astronomy content for a global audience. Must be willing to work at least 3 days a week from 10 to ~12:30 UTC (5 a.m. CDT to ~7:30 a.m. CDT). Otherwise, hours are flexible.
About Us:
EarthSky tells night sky and astronomy stories with clarity, wonder, and scientific accuracy. We reach millions of skywatchers and science enthusiasts monthly through our website, YouTube channel, newsletters, and social media. We share astronomy and other sciences in a friendly, accessible voice.
We’re looking for energetic, curious communicators who love space, science, and storytelling — and who want to help bring the cosmos to a wide digital audience.
Overview of Editor position:
EarthSky.org is seeking an experienced part-time Editor with knowledge of astronomy to work ~15-20 hours/week. The job is to help produce clear, engaging, and trustworthy science content for millions of readers worldwide.
As Editor, you’ll help oversee astronomy articles and videos from concept to publication, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and voice consistency across all of EarthSky’s platforms. Must be willing to work early morning hours – 4 a.m. CDT to 8 a.m. CDT (9 to 13 UTC) on Fridays through Sundays. On these mornings, you will lead the EarthSky newsletter team. Otherwise, you’ll be working with the EarthSky editorial team. Video editing skills are a plus.
What we’re looking for:
Strong writing skills
Ability to explain ideas simply and with enthusiasm
Background and/or interest in astronomy, night-sky observing, or science communication
Responsible, communicative, and able to meet deadlines
Basic familiarity with YouTube and social platforms
A team player
Bonus skills: Video editing, Canva, OBS, livestream experience, or graphic creation
