Last night, 28-29th October, some parts of the world witnessed a partial lunar eclipse. This was an amazing opportunity for Indian viewers and photographers to witness the beauty. With clouds clearing up in Kolkata, India after 9 PM, the stage was set. On this night, I was excited for 2 reasons: the eclipse itself and capturing the eclipse with a new gear. I was testing out the new Nikkor Z 180-600mm lens.

After spending the whole night at the terrace under moonlight, I was able to capture a few glimpses of the eclipse.

This collage shows the complete sequence of the partial lunar eclipse. This collage can be viewed in 3 parts. The image at the middle is of the maximum point of the eclipse. The inner circle is the sequence of the umbral eclipse and the outer circle represents the penumbral eclipse. The exposure was kept constant throughout for the comparison of changing luminosity.

The image at the middle is the maximum point of eclipse captured at 1:44 AM IST. This was created with 8 different exposures blended (each exposure having 5 images stacked) together. A total of 40 images were used.
For the mineral colour, a separate stack of 50 images captured before the eclipse began, were used.
