When I go home yesterday from work I noticed a Katydid inside the garage near the door. I carefully picked it up and carried it out to one of our Lilac bushes and placed it among the leaves. These guys are masters of camouflage and leaf mimicry as you can see. They also are very capable of inflicting a nasty bite when threatened or held incorrectly. Look at the nearby leaves and see how closely the leaf veins match the Katydid wing veins. Especially when you look at the underside with daylight shining through them. I checked it last night and it was in the head down vertical position sleeping. This morning at 630AM it was still there same place still snoozing. The weather had cooled significantly over the past two day and out mountains have gotten up to 15 inches of snow today.

When I got home from work the Katydid was still in the same position and place where it slept until I approached it to take more pics. It moved in slow motion due to being chilled but was very aware of me. Very cool insects to me and they were named from their mating call which was interpreted as " Ka-ty-did".
