Image Details:

Cloud iridescence is a colorful optical phenomenon that occurs in a cloud and appears in the general proximity of the Moon. When moonlight shines through a layer of ice crystals high in the atmosphere, the ice crystals act like prisms, splitting the light into a rainbow of colors that surrounds the Moon.
This is the first of 4 Supermoons that will occur over the coming months. A Supermoon occurs when the full moon coincides with the closest approach to Earth in its orbit. Supermoons appear brighter, larger or closer than usual.
