I took this shot from the jetty at Webster Beach Park (Monroe County, New York) on Thursday evening (29 June) during probably the worst of the recent smoke episode in Western New York State. Note the cloud on the left side of the disk of the sun, and also a cluster of sunspots to the right. I took the shot because of the little cloud, wondering if it was just a real cloud of water droplets or if maybe it was some of the smoke drifting down from Quebec. Does anybody have an idea which it might be?
Only later did I notice the sunspots. Kind of a nice bonus, eh? I am embarrassed to recall that as a kid, we would view sunspots through photographic film -- a very dumb thing to do!
