A seagull pair, more accurately a herring gull pair and their two new nestlings. They nested on the roof of a building near the ocean. I took the photos in 3 consecutive days, in the last photo lower right the nestlings are 3 days old. The parents alternate incubating, and take turns watching their young. They are fiercely protective. The nestlings are most vulnerable during their first year.
The most common gull in North America is the American herring gull, named after the fish that used to be their favorite food. Herring gulls are highly resourceful and highly adaptable.
