Two young white-tailed deer (I think they were probably siblings) were grazing less than 10 meters away from me. They saw me perfectly, but calmly continued to eat not far from each other. Then they approached each other and began to lick each other. This mutual licking continued for several minutes, after which they continued eating. The photo shows the protruding tongue of the left deer. I have never heard of such a deer ritual.
The low sun beautifully illuminated the deer's fur and ears, which seemed like fabulous flowers.
