I had just stopped at a large pond at Five Rivers, when I captured a pair of Snapping Turtles mating! I did research to confirm that it was what I saw, & it's said that their courtship is rarely observed. Mating takes place in the water. The female lays 20-40 ping pong ball sized eggs. Unfortunately as many as 90% of snapping turtles nests are destroyed by predators. I feel fortunate to have witnessed such nature in the making.
