Young Crescent Moon Setting In Volcanic Sunset.
On Friday 21st April at 5.59 pm the 2% illuminated 36 hour old Waxing Crescent Moon emerged from clearing dark clouds into the residual glow of a volcanic sunset to the north-west of Mutare. An hour earlier the odds were against seeing anything due to clouds which had gathered during the late afternoon and were obscuring most of the sunset horizon. It was a pleasant surprise when these cleared sufficiently, a quarter of an hour before the Moon was scheduled to set, for it to be observed for just twelve minutes before it disappeared behind the ridge to the north of Christmas Pass!
