I was just finishing an early morning session with the Milky Way on the night of the new moon. After going to bed at 10PM, I got up at 1230 and drove 100 miles from Draper to The Knolls offroad state park. I had about 3 hours of shooting between 230 and 530 with 3 cameras on tripods and star trackers.

Dawn was quickly approaching and my camera images were showing a predawn blue cast even though the night sky was still dark. The long exposures signaled the end of the session.

In this image I was starting to take down the first camera and decided to record a shot of the scene with my cell phone.
The red headlamp painted my surroundings as I moved about. After packing up I drove to Salt Lake City for a day's work.
