Image Details:

This is an adult male Lesser Goldfinch which is very similar to the American Goldfinch. The easily recognized difference between the two species is their black caps.

The Lesser has a full cap and the American has a partial cap. Today was the first time this fall I've seen them visit my backyard feeders. Two males and two females stopped by to feed with some Black Capped Chickadees. A little later a Downy Woodpecker arrived to eat at the Suet feeder. It was more concerned with the intruder ( me, under a blanket ) than the other species of birds feeding. It kept chirping with a loud alarm squeak and hid behind the suet feeder to eat. Therefore a bit more challenging to photograph.
