Mikado Pheasant (scientific name is Syrmaticus mikado), also known as Taiwan mikado pheasant and Black Long-tailed Pheasant, is a bird of the genus Long-tailed pheasant unique to Taiwan. Birds that inhabit the highest altitudes. The mikado pheasant has pure black feathers with purple-blue metallic brilliance, and the tail feathers have obvious white horizontal stripes. It often appears in the fog. On July 4, I was on a 2,500-meter-high mountain, and saw a mikado pheasant appear in the fog. In the early morning of July 5, I met it again in the sun and came out for food. Therefore, I saw the different postures of the mikado pheasant. What is even more amazing is that its feathers show various colors in different light, especially the metallic luster in the sun is really bright!
The mikado pheasant is a national treasure bird in the eyes of Taiwanese because of its beauty and the appearance of an emperor. Its image is also used on the back of the New Taiwan Dollar 1,000-yuan note.
