Image Details:

I captured this image of the waning gibbous Moon using an ASI183MC camera and RedCat51 astrograph. A favorable libration in longitude has shifted Mare Orientale (Eastern Sea) into sight with best views in 2022 occurring on the nights of January 20 and 21. Mare Orientale, which is not normally visible to Earth-bound observers due to its location along the southwestern edge of the near side, is the Moon's youngest impact basin. At 930 km across, Mare Orientale is notable for its multi-ring structure.
