Equipment Details:

GEAR: Canon EOS Ra mirrorless camera + RF 85mm f/1.2L USM Lens.
SETTINGS: 6 sec | f/1.4 | ISO 5000 | 85mm | Auto WB
ALSO: 'Protage' Lens Warmer with Powerbank + Manfrotto Tripod.

Post-processing Details:

I took three 6-second in JPEG format with my camera and lens and merged them into this 3x image panorama. I was restricted to a 6 second exposure due to the 85mm focal length (to avoid star trails). No tracking and No stacking. Edited in Lightroom (hue, contrast, shadows etc) + Photoshop (levels, curves, color bump and panorama merge). The glow on the lower left is from light pollution from the city of Sydney.

Image Details:

-- Taken on my third night with this camera and the first time with this lens, I drove up to the Sydney Blue Mountains to get away from the light pollution over the suburbs. You can actually see the Galactic Core of the Milky Way in color on the LCD of the camera's Live View preview even before taking a picture. This relatively new camera is modified by Canon to capture 4x more of the 656.3nm frequency from nebula emissions. The lens is also uniquely suited to Astrophotography, with Blue Spectrum Refractive Optics, a Fluorine element and Air Sphere Coatings which collectively increase light transmission wile controlling flare, ghosting and Chromatic Aberration. I've only just started using it but the results are pretty amazing to me. I let the camera's image processor handle Noise Reduction and Sharpening so I didn't need to apply more during editing. The only thing that needed a little more color enhancement was the blue region of the Rho Ophiuchi complex (visible on the right). Not sure I need that telescope now. --
