Scenic Route Lightning Strike
During the afternoon on Friday 27th an unexpected late rainy season thunderstorm developed over Mutare and environs which lasted for about an hour with frequent rumbles of thunder, some visible flashes of lightning but only localised rainfall. Several distant lightning strikes were captured on video including this extraordinary bolt which took a long tortuous scenic route before striking the flank of Hospital Hill. The accompanying four frame time-lapse montage shows that it started off as an elevated anvil crawler before becoming a multiple cloud to ground strike. Unpredictable and dangerous as much of the lightning experienced in Zimbabwe is!
