Very Young Moon Setting
On Wednesday 25th the very thin crescent Moon (just 31 hours old) was seen setting behind the summit of Murahwa Mountain close to the where the Sun had gone down about an hour earlier. Although the sky was almost clear save for a lone dark cloud above the mountain, a strongly colored sunset twilight arch developed half an hour after sunset which was so bright that it prevented the young Moon from appearing above the glare until it was quite close to the horizon. As the glow from the arch faded the Moon became more clearly visible and it was possible to take photographs of the very thin crescent setting into a saddle on top of the mountain (this mosaic).
