Afocal method
The color on the lighted side of the Moon auto-adjusted to yellow as the skies were starting to brighten (sunrise). The dark side was enhanced to darken that area and hide the grains caused by the smartphone's camera.

Absolutely fantastic! Lunar features are always best seen when the Moon is on crescent phase, such as the waning crescent which was imaged this morning using just a smartphone on a telescope.
