Lençóis Maranhenses National Park
August 19, 2020
Lençóis Maranhenses National Park is located 166 miles (267 km) by road from Sao Luis, Brazil. This national park contains 380,000 acres, featuring 43 miles (70 km) of coastline, and an interior composed of rolling sand dunes. During the rainy season, the valleys among the dunes become freshwater lagoons. Ecotourists visit this park for its four endangered species, surfing, canoeing, rustic camping, water tours and more. The dark skies along the coast also means its far from civilization and not easy to access. Most visitors enter via Barreirinhas, which has a number of accommodation, restaurants and bars plus many tour options into the park.
