NJAA Observatory
August 17, 2020
The NJAA Observatory is located on top of a mountain in Voorhees State Park, New Jersey. The New Jersey Astronomical Association runs a number of observatories on the premises, including a 26-inch telescope, which is the largest telescope open to the public in the state. Its mount is a massive iron casting, nearly seven feet high, and its foundation penetrates twenty feet underground to the mountain’s bedrock! The entire assembly weighs over four tons, and towers fifteen feet above the floor. Public viewings are on Saturday evenings for stargazing and Sunday afternoons for solar observing, April through October.
