City of Rocks State Park
February 22, 2018
City of Rocks State Park is located in southwestern New Mexico, about 84 miles (135 km) west of Las Cruces. At an elevation of 5,200 feet, the state park is covered in eroded columns of volcanic rock towering as high as 40 feet. Lanes between the rocks resemble city streets. The park is open from 7 am to 9 pm, but for those who wish to stay out late and look at the stars, camping is available. The park is rated a 2 on the Bortle scale, meaning that observers should be able to see down to magnitude 7.49 without the aid of optical devices.
