Massive increase in brightness resulting from the November 14, 2023 outburst of Comet 12P Pons-Brooks. This Halley-family comet has had four major outbursts to date in its current pass into the inner Solar system. The most recent outburst has increased its brightness to mag 9. Comet 12P has a record of outbursts observed in its prior two passes and it is on track to be a prominent event of 2024. Comet 12P Pons-Brooks will be near maximum brightness and near the Sun during the April 2024 solar eclipse.
