Image Details:

Markarian's Chain consists of more than 8 different galaxies from the Virgo Galaxy Cluster that are arranged in a curved line. The Chain contains M84 and M86, which are large, bright lenticular galaxies belonging to the Messier catalogue, as well as NGC 4435 and NGC 4438, which are interacting galaxies sometimes called Markarian's Eyes. Benjamin Markarian was an Armenian astrophysicist who discovered that at least 7 members of the chain move coherently.
