There was a thin film of clouds softening the moon and creating a halo around it last night. The moon was at 53% Illumination, shown in the photo here with 5 maria (large, dark basaltic plains) labeled. Mare Tranquillitatis ,The Sea of Tranquility, is the site of the Apollo 11 landing in 1969, when humans first landed on the moon.
