Taken the morning of the first good frost in the low desert when about a quarter inch layer of ice had formed on the backyard birdbath. Wanting to see how strong the ice was, I stood the brick upright on the ice. It held! An interesting shadow was cast below the ice, separate from the bottom of the brick. Probably happens often in colder climates, but a frozen birdbath is not common here.
