This scene of a setting moon, and the stars) emanating radiance woke me up before 3am this morning. A cloud figure is moving to tuck Orion in. Below the moon on the water are 2 lighted buoys. The red one is a lighted bell buoy about half a mile from the entrance to Depoe Bay. The white one (actually black and white) is a lighted whistle buoy 1.1 miles west of the entrance. When the winds are strong, they emit a haunting sound of bells ringing and a long moaning whistle, the ocean’s lament. Both buoys are indispensable markers that help boats out and into the narrow channel leading to the harbor.
