Pacific harbor seals on offshore rocks. Big waves cause the little ones to slide down but they climb back up. They spend about half their time on land (on the rocks, sandy beaches, reefs, mudflats) and half in the water. They can even sleep with their bodies nearly submerged in water, exposing only the tip of their nose to the air – a posture called “bottling.” They use isolated sandy beaches and offshore rocks near coastal waters in Oregon as haul out and pupping sites.
