Today's Super moon rising from the ESE direction is the last Super moon of 2021. A super moon occurs when the Full Moon coincides with the Moon’s closest approach to Earth in its elliptical orbit. This position is called perigee and in its 27-day orbit around Earth, the Moon is at the closest distance to Earth and today it was 363,695 km away from Earth and it appeared larger and orange in color when it had just risen. I decided to post this picture of the rising moon to show the feel of the moon 'protruding' above the building. Unfortunately the moon disappeared into the thick clouds above within 5 mins of showing itself. The sky was overcast from the evening.

It is also popularly known as the Strawberry Moon and had received its name from ancient American tribes who marked the Full Moon with the beginning of the harvesting season for strawberries. June's Full Moon is denoted by different names in different parts of the world. In Europe, it's known as the Rose Moon, which marks the harvesting of roses. In the Northern Hemisphere, it is referred to as the Hot Moon as it coincides with the beginning of the summer season north of the equator.
