Just before sunrise, beams of light extended out from the clouds seen here in this photo taken during the early morning when the sun is about to rise. The phenomenon is known as crepuscular rays, as it occurs during crepuscular hours — those around dusk and dawn. Though my focus was on the moon that was visible for the last time before the new moon, I was surprised to see the crepuscular rays extending out in the open sky. The moon was about 2% illuminated exposing the razor thin crescent in the morning skies. It was not something we get to see often and the sky was cloudless allowing to view this scene.
