Four close views of Mammatus Clouds before Sunrise
On Monday morning I took an early morning walk up to the Murambi High Level Water Tanks in the hope of catching a glimpse of the very thin old Moon rising. Instead there was a surprise appearance of Mammatus clouds on the underside of a sunrise illuminated band of altostratus cloud above Greenside and Morningside suburbs. These strange clouds, which are often associated with severe weather, do sometimes form under other circumstances including the cold calm premature end of rainy season morning conditions currently being experienced in Eastern Zimbabwe.
