Supernova SN 2024gy, in galaxy NGC 4216 at 55 million light years distance, was discovered by amateur astronomer Koichi Itagaki of Japan on January 4th at magnitude 16.3
At the time of this photo, on February 8, 2024, it was approximately magnitude 13.
