While overlooking the Hudson River with my camera, I was very surprised when a Cooper's Hawk landed on a fence not too far from me. It sat there for a while, patiently waiting for prey to pounce on, which it finally did. Unfortunately it appeared to be a blue bird of some sort. Known as a predator of birds, The Cooper's hawk also feeds on mammals, particularly squirrels and chipmunks.
