Took this by placing my phone up to the eyepiece of my hydrogen alpha solar scope (double stacked Lunt 60mm).
In my decades of watching the sun through telescopes, I have never seen anything like this. It's an X-class solar flare, a major event that could possibly cause planet-wide radio blackouts and long-lasting radiation storms. A solar flare is an explosion 💥 on the sun. To my eye, it looked like the surface cracked open to reveal the blindingly white hot interior. We should expect some northern lights, so pay attention.
