
Venus, moon, Jupiter, Mars … see Mercury near the horizon? Taken on the morning of October 10 by our friend Annie Lewis in Spain.

Tim Herring in Boise, Idaho wrote on October 10: “Woke early to shoot the Moon, Jupiter, Mars and Venus. Completely forgot Mercury is back in the picture. There it was, next to the tree across the field. This tree is often in my backyard captures, so great to have it next to the Messenger :)”

Niko Powe in Illinois wrote on October 10: “Venus, Regulus, Mars, Jupiter, the moon, Mercury, and me up in Kewanee this morning!”

As seen from Australia on the morning of October 9, the moon passed in front of Venus. Colin Legg wrote: “…a 5-hour drive east of Perth to Bremer Bay where Venus would emerge from behind the moon just as it cleared the horizon. Perched on a cliff face, looking east over the southern ocean, I watched the two brightest objects in the night sky slowly drift apart as they climbed into a starry early morning sky.” Read more at Colin’s Facebook page.

Mercury was much harder to see than the other planets, but Ashley Fuggle caught Mercury on the morning of October 9! The moon will meet up with Mercury on October 11. Image taken from Folkestone Kent UK.
