Volcan el Hoyo, Nicaragua

This dormant volcano close to Lake Xolotlán and about 2.5 hours from Managua, in Nicaragua, is “absolutely clear from pollution”, according to an EarthSky community member. El Hoyo is part of a complex of volcanoes, and the top can be reached via hiking, reported by reviewers to not be entirely easy but well worth the effort. The top provides panoramic views with great sunsets and sunrises. It is recommended by hikers to bring a local guide in order to make the most out of the hike.
