Velká Fatra Dark Sky Park

The Velká Fatra Dark Sky Park is a protected part of the bigger Velká Fatra National Park in Slovakia, just 94 miles (152 km) southeast of Ostrava, Czechia. The area is popular with tourists, hikers and stargazers alike as there many resorts and log cabins in and around the mountain range as well; the creation of this specific protected area is a significant contribution of Slovakia to the International Year of Light and declared by the General Assembly of the United Nations. Please note that while camping is allowed, reservations must be made with Velká Fatra National Park management rather than the dark sky preserve itself.
