Torrey

Torrey is a town in the US state of Utah, located on the north bank of the Fremont River, between Boulder Mountain to the southwest and Capitol Reef National Park to the east. The town—which sits at an elevation 6,800 feet (2,100 m) above sea level—was settled in the 1880’s by Mormon pioneers in a remote area that still enjoys pristine skies, averaging class 2 in the Bortle Dark-Sky Scale. A stargazer that is knowledgeable with the town shared the following with EarthSky: “Torrey is the first and only community in Utah that has been designated as an International Dark Sky Community. There are only 20 communities in the entire world so designated. Torrey is the gateway community to Capitol Reef National Park, which is a gold tier International Dark Sky Park.”
