Tamboershoek Farm

Tamboershoek Farm in South Africa is a working sheep and game farm surrounded by the Nuweveld Mountains, in the vastness of the Great Karoo. With an elevation of 4,000 feet (1,200 m) it is a place of ever changing and beautiful scenery. Acommodations are available at the farm, and guests are welcome to explore the farm on foot or by bicycle. Its remote location far from city lights makes for pristine skies approaching class 1 in the Bortle scale. A stargazer told EarthSky the following: It’s a completely isolated area, some 50 km on a dust road from the nearest motorway. With no electricity and only a gas power supply, stepping outside this log cabin, and peering up, the sky is alive with millions of stars. You have this feeling you could almost reach up and touch them.”
