Joseph H. Williams Tallgrass Prairie Preserve

The Joseph H. Williams Tallgrass Prairie Preserve in Oklahoma, located in Osage County near Foraker, is owned and managed by The Nature Conservancy. The preserve is protected as the largest tract of remaining tallgrass prairie in the world, and includes open space with scenic turnouts along the roads and broad vistas of rolling prairie, emerald green in spring, tall and brown in fall, and dotted with wildflowers in the summer. The Tallgrass Prairie Preserve is open every day from dawn to dusk. The skies rate at about class 3 in the Bortle scale, and according to the person who recommended this location to EarthSky, it has “very little manmade light.”
