San Jose Chacaya

San Jose Chacaya is a small municipality in the Solola department of Guatemala, just 44 miles (71 km) southeast of Quetzaltenango, Guatemala. Hotels, vacation lodges, and campgrounds are all available within the town and in neighboring cities. However while a beautiful destination for casual gazing, the area is not recommended for serious observations; one EarthSky friend says “The Western Highlands of Guatemala is still a very dark place to be, if you live outside of the town centers. The night sky is bound to the Maya Kiche Myth, known as the Popol Wuj, a story in which the celestial sphere comes alive with the telling of the Ancient Maya story of the Hero Twins found in the Popol Wuj.” For more information, please browse online.
