San Jose Chacaya is a small municipality in the Solola department of Guatemala, just 44 miles (71 km) southeast of Quetzaltenango, Guatemala. Hotels, vacation lodges, and campgrounds are all available within the town and in neighboring cities. However while a beautiful destination for casual gazing, the area is not recommended for serious observations; one EarthSky friend says “The Western Highlands of Guatemala is still a very dark place to be, if you live outside of the town centers.
