Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area

Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area is a nature preserve located in the Mojave Desert, just 17 miles (27 km) west of the world-famous Las Vegas, Nevada. Trailheads are located in dark, flat, expansive areas of Red Rock Canyon, and thus provide wide open views of the night sky. The Las Vegas Astronomical Society hosts star parties and events with the canyon at various times of year, where telescopes are provided to view beautiful night objects and amateur astronomers are happy to answer questions. Red Rock Canyon also offers hikes with a Red Rock Canyon Interpretive Association naturalist for an opportunity to discover astronomy in a small group setting. Camping is also available from a selection of more than 53 individual sites. For more information, visit online or call 702-515-5350 between 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Pacific Time.
