With a nearby world-class observatory, lots of amenities, and access to the scenic Observatory Trail, its no wonder the Observatory area comes to life during the summer. Listen to the sounds of wildlife while roasting smores, or partake in fun activities like Star Parties where use of the renowned Hale Telescope allow visitors to explore the night sky. Get outdoors and explore all the area has to offer. Good for weekends and holidays, but reservations do fill up fast!
“It gets very dark at night on nights with no Moon. The US forest Service partners with a local star gazing club for star gazing nights. They advise campers to minimize their light on those nights, and they have red lights for the campground restrooms. In addition, the stargazing club donated three concrete circles that are marked for magnetic North, and are level, for telescope placement.”
Chelynne Campion is a Production/ Sales Assistant for EarthSky. Her family just purchased a telescope, and she's now learning to be a stargazer!
