Namakanipaio Campground

The historic Namakanipaio Campground offers a rustic, one-of-a-kind camping experience within Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, just 14 miles (22 km) east of Fern Forest on the main island of Hawaii. Please note that while there are no designated stargazing areas, one EarthSky friend says “this campground has restrooms, water, picnic tables and barbecue pits, as well as clear, dark skies.” It is a large, open grassy area with tall eucalyptus and ohi’a trees, where only tent camping is permitted, although rustic camper cabins are also available for renting. For more information, please visit online or call the Hawai’i Volcanoes Lodging Company at 844-569-8849.
