Manitoulin Island is the largest fresh water island in the world characterized by a chain of more than 100 small lakes, about 108 miles (174 km) southwest of Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. Revered by locals and visitors for its horizon-to-horizon viewing, the island is also home to a commercial, privately-owned dark sky preserve called Gordon’s Park, where beautiful night skies are boasted in addition to weekly events, star parties, and accommodations perfect for stargazing. The island also offers many activities, programs for travelers, and special events to take part in, as well camping opportunities where visitors can intentionally set out to get lost and have a unique experience with nature.
