Manitoulin Island is a Canadian lake island in Lake Huron, in the province of Ontario. It claims to be “the world’s largest sweet water or freshwater island.” Archeological discoveries have been made there. It offers hiking and cycling and – in winter – cross country skiing, ice fishing, snowmobiling, skating and curling. Gordon’s Park at Manitoulin Island is a commercial, privately-owned dark sky preserve, boasting beautiful night skies, 360 horizon-to-horizon viewing, weekly events, star parties, and campsites and accommodations perfect for stargazing. “Very dark skies.”
