Lake Hudson Recreation Area

Lake Hudson State Recreation Area is a public recreation area located within southwestern Lenawee County, just 88 miles (142 km) southwest of Detroit, Michigan. Considered to be a designated “dark sky preserve” by the W.J. Hayes State Park, the area is accessible by the public year-round and offers premier fishing, swimming, boating, rustic camping, and more, with wide open night skies suited for gazing. One EarthSky friend says “the preserve provides a low light area for night sky viewing that also allows other park users access and availability for other activities.” The preserve provides a low light area for night sky viewing that also allows other park users access and availability for other activities, and uses lighting fixtures that minimize light pollution when possible.
