Enchanted Rock State Natural Area

Enchanted Rock State Natural Area is located outside of Fredericksburg, in Texas Hill Country. The landscape bulges above the surrounding area, providing a hike up to views of the countryside. The park’s dark skies have earned it the highest Gold Tier status by the International Dark Sky Association. The skies at Enchanted Rock are dark enough to view the Milky Way but need protection from encroaching city lights. Park administrators have taken significant steps to minimize nighttime lighting in the park. A dark sky monitoring system checks the quality of the night sky every 15 minutes.
