Cosmic Campground

The Cosmic Campground is a grand night sky campsite in the Gila National Forest of western New Mexico, located about 186 miles (299 km) northwest of Las Cruces, New Mexico. It’s an accredited dark sky sanctuary, called “a new mecca for amateur astronomers and casual stargazers seeking a one-of-a-kind experience under the stars” by the International Dark Sky Association. The campground offers a 360-degree, unobstructed view of the night sky, and often hosts star parties in cooperation with the partner group Friends of the Cosmic Campground; the nearest significant source of artificial light is more than 40 miles (60 km) away, and across the state line in Arizona. Additionally, tent and RV camping are absolutely free! For more information, please visit online or call the Silver City Ranger District at 575-388-8201.
