Caprock Canyons State Park and Trailway

Caprock Canyons State Park and Trailway is a Texas state park, just 96 miles (154 km) northeast of Lubbock, Texas. Please note that while there are no designated stargazing areas, the park is accessible by the public year-round and offers secluded hiking trails, lakes, desert, and more, with wide open night skies suited for gazing. One EarthSky reader says the park offers “dark skies at night with a wide open West Texas vista,” and Texas Parks & Wildlife claims “the stars shine brightly over many Texas state parks. Get away from the city lights and take in some of the best night sky views around!” Camping is also available from a selection of campgrounds both primitive and developed within the park.
