The Bodie Hills are a low mountain range in Mono County, California, just 10 miles (16 km) west of the Nevada border, where they become the Bodie Mountains in Mineral County, Nevada. Please note that while there are no designated stargazing areas, the range is accessible by locals and tourists year-round, and also provides ample opportunity for hiking, fishing, and more, as well as free camping opportunities for visitors (although fire permits must be obtained at a local ranger station). One EarthSky reader encourages travelers to “just pull over, get out and see what the ancients saw – minimal light pollution, if any.” For more information, please visit online or call 760-873-6500.
