Big Arm / Flathead Lake State Park

Big Arm / Flathead Lake State Park, in Montana, is located on the western shores of Flathead Lake, the largest natural freshwater lake in the western United States. Recreational activities available in the park include fishing, boating, camping, swimming, and more. Day use areas in the park remain open year-round, while campgrounds open from April thru October. The lake shore sits at an elevation of 3,000 feet (900 m) and the night skies rate at about class 3 in the Bortle scale. Big Arm / Flathead Lake was recommended as a stargazing site to EarthSky because of its “low interference of light. I step out my door and I see the Milky Way!”
